Short text (50 words). Glowing Oceans is a luxury art and science atlas by Firoiu Dan Nicolae: 101 deep-sea creatures that make their own light, drawn as living glass in 303 plates, with every fact checked against 294 sources. From its pages grows a touring exhibition, from one gallery wall to a whole city.
Long text. Below two hundred metres the sun fades; below a thousand it is gone. Yet the deep sea glows: three in four animals there make their own light. Glowing Oceans gathers 101 of them – anglerfish, vampire squid, jellies, comb jellies and the Atacama snailfish of the deepest trenches – arranged not by family tree but by shape, from serpentine cords to crystal skeletons. Each creature has its plates, three facts, field notes, size and depth. The book is the source of a touring exhibition designed by the artist’s team for galleries, museums, aquariums and cities.
