About the plates
Every creature in Glowing Oceans has three plates: Plate I shows the whole animal as living glass, and the others look at it from another side, or show its skeleton and organs in light. The plates are artistic interpretations, not photographs, and do not show the true colours of the living animal. They show what the animal hides in the dark.
All plates can also be ordered as collector’s editions for the wall, and many are shown at great size in the exhibition.
The gallery shows eight of the 101 creatures of the book, three plates each, and grows as more plates are finished. Touch a creature’s name below to read its three facts, its field notes and where in the ocean it lives.
Each plate is shown on black, as in the book, so that the light of the animal is the only light in the picture.
